August Rumination, 2014 – Michaela Harlow- Pastel on Paper, 10″ x 15″

Yesterday morning, I handed in the final draft of my last garden design and planting plan of the season. From this point forward, I am a full time artist. If I do accept any garden design commissions, it will be on a very limited, part-time basis. I love designing gardens but the seasonal workload has been interfering with my career as an artist. It’s time to put painting and exhibiting my work back into focus. I am an artist, first and foremost.

Yesterday afternoon, I went for a short walk through the forest below my studio and sat down by the brook. I thought about ‘Soliloquy’ and the need for quiet contemplation. The late day slid into evening; a glass of wine and a rewarding session in my studio.

August Rumination.
